Whether working tools, vehicles or household goods: product design was characterised in the GDR by the political framework conditions of the SED-Dictatorship. The diverse everyday and product culture was also a mirror for social, political and economical tendencies and developments. The exhibition shows, how the designer’s work was determined by influences, ideas, constraints and control.
Objects of the inventories of the foundation „Haus der Geschichte“ tell various stories about the product design back then. The products, designs, documents, photos and reports from contemporary witnesses will invite the visitor to a critical approach to the heritage of the GDR.
COORDINATION has been commissioned to develop the complete design of the exhibition. Among the concept, the planning and site supervision, we also have been responsible for the look and feel of the exhibition itself and for the whole graphic means of communication like key visuals, poster, flyers and invitation cards.
