Berlin Design Selection Milan
Temporary exhibition during Salone di Mobile in Ventura Lambrate
Berlin Design Selection is an exhibition curated by DMY Berlin and the Berlin Senate showcasing nine independent Berlin designers and design offices. Participants range from fresh first-timers to established designers – so a wide range of talent was presented. The Berlin Design Selection Exhibition took place in a part of the old Abitare Warehouse, a bleak utilitarian place designed and normally only used for logistics.
Since the exhibition in this transitional space was held only for a few days, we chose cost effective materials and graphics that are typically aesthetically related to this type of space and are also easily reusable.

The participants were cimcima., COORDINATION, Elisa Strozyk, Hettler Tüllmann, Hopf, Nordin, LOCKWOOD, Ruben der Kinderen, Sebastian Scherer and Werner Aisslinger.
The overall setup was designed to have a temporary yet well-thought-out look & feel: Pinewood display panels leaning against the existing, untreated walls as if ready to be taken away, sheets of wood as display plinths for objects as if waiting to be boxed up. For the zoning of the exhibition we designed a metaphoric dynamic network mesh of nylon straps to create a picture that can be read as such: The Berlin Design Scene is a very entwined and interconnected mesh of offices, people and ideas dynamically growing in this Unesco City of Design.
It also represents the tradition of having group exhibitions organized by various network initiatives in places including Milan, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, London, New York, Miami, Moscow, Bratislava, Taiwan, Shanghai, Bangkok thereby spanning across major parts of our planet. Without referring to these places or people literally, dynamic interconnectedness was chosen as an image framing both space, occasion, background and the diversity of the participants.
